Techniques / Almost Locked Sets

Death Blossom

Unfair

A cell whose every candidate has its own almost locked set.

Take a cell (the stem) with candidates a, b, c. For each of them find an almost locked set that contains that digit, where every candidate of the digit in the set sees the stem cell. Whatever digit the stem takes, the matching set loses that digit and becomes locked.

Now look for a digit Z (not one of the stem's digits) that every one of the sets contains. Whichever set is locked holds Z, so any cell that sees all Z candidates in all the sets cannot be Z.
